Last week I was a student panelist for Boston University’s School of Education admitted graduate student informational panel. First, I must say, I was honored to be on the panel. I was there representing part-time EdM students. The other panelists were 2 full-time EdM candidates, and 2 full-time Doctoral candidates. After about forty-five minutes of questions, one of the last questions that was asked of the panel was, “What do you plan on doing with your degree?” I was dreading this question.
When I first started my Master’s program, the answer was easy. I want to go on to the doctoral program and become a professor. And in some ways that is still exactly what I want to do. To tell the truth, if that is not what I do, I will probably make my way back to marketing.
Sitting on the panel, I also learned a few things myself. I have long been thinking that I need to start working on getting published. The panel told me to get off my butt and start doing it instead of thinking about it.
I also decided that I need to start getting my name out there more in social media. Regardless of if I stay in Higher Education, or if I go back into marketing, I know that I will be focusing on social media. When I was in marketing, I always prided myself on being ahead of the curve whenever a new technology came into play. With all the advances in the last 2 years, it is harder and harder to stay ahead, so I better not get behind!
With all that being said, I got to work this weekend! I started a StumbleUpon account (user name renh77), wrote my first articles for Examiner.com, and started working on reorganizing the blog to include a “hire me for social media” type page. I know, I know, how did I not have a StumbleUpon account yet…slacker. Well, I do now, so let’s carry on…
More about writing for Examiner.com….This is a news site that looks for writers from all of over the country to write on very specialized subjects. The first subject I have been assigned to, is Boston Brunches! Very appropriate, don’t ya think! I am hoping to get 2 – 3 articles per week up on their site. Please feel free to subscribe to my posts to stay up to date on all things Boston Brunch!
If you are interested in writing for Examiner.com, click here to go to the application. Seriously, they are looking for local and National writers for almost every subject under the sun!
So, that is what I am doing for now…trying to get my name out there, and trying to get as many writing credits as I can. But I also have an oath to myself to only output quality work. So if I start slipping, I hope my loyal readers will make sure to put me back on track!
