I am excited to share with you some of my top New England travel spots!  I moved to Boston, from Florida, 8 years ago, and have been exploring the area ever since. It is really amazing to live in state where you can travel to one of the other 5 New England states in just a couple of hours in the car.

Because there is so much beauty and so many fun things to do, I thought today I would share my top 5.

#5 – Lost River Gorge, North Woodstock, NH

Lost River Gorge is one of the cooler places I have stumbled upon in New England. With wooden walkways twisting and turning through waterfalls and caves, this is the perfect location to burn some calories and have some fun on vacation. We were lucky enough to visit on a misty day, so we pretty much had the place to ourselves. I do have a sneaking suspicion that it can get pretty, pretty busy around these parts.

Where to eat: My advice in N.H. is to get lost in a small town and find a small café on the roadside. There is a lot of good stuff happening in those small kitchens!

#4 – Boothbay Harbor, ME.

My sister and I got lucky and stumbled upon Boothbay Harbor, which isn’t easy to do. This beautiful resort town situated around the bay is a scenic setting for a weekend away. But one word of warning, Boothbay Harbor is one of the pricier vacation spots in New England.

Where to eat: Ports of Italy was one of the best Italian dinners I’ve had, and with a view of Boothbay! Don’t leave town until you stop at Coastal Maine Popcorn.

#3 – Mystic, CT

Between Olde Mistick  Village, The Mystic Seaport and Downtown Mystic, Mystic is one of the best family destinations in New England.  Don’t forget to look up some farms in the area as well, Connecticut is loaded with them!

Where to eat: Golden Lamb Buttery, Captain Daniel Packer Inn

#2 – Provincetown, MA.

P-town is the happiest place in earth. It is New England’s Key West, and there is more fun to go around than you could imagine. But be careful, a quick trip for lunch into P-town can quickly turn into a full day and night of fun!

Where to eat: Anywhere on commercial street will make you happy. The Lobster Pot is a great seafood dinner at great prices, but does not accept reservations.

#1 – Racepoint Lighthouse, Racepoint, MA.

Sometimes (to be honest 1-3 times per summer), I think I am the luckiest girl in the world. My father-in-law is a light keeper for Racepoint Lighthouse. If it weren’t for that, we wouldn’t have ever known that you can vacation in this little piece of heaven! That’s right, for a few days of summer we pack up and head out to the one place in New England where you can have the beach to yourself and really be a part of nature. Trust me, go on a lighthouse vacation. I will happily accept your thank you-s after you have experienced it.

Where to eat: Pack the cooler and bring your best grilling recipe!

The thing about New England is that there is something to discover around every wrong turn. So hop in the car, and drive….the worst that can happen is that you find too many homemade ice cream stands!
